Strike it Rich with Fun at the Annual Goldfield Days Celebration

When August arrives in the high desert, Goldfield completely comes alive! From July 31-August 2, the historic town celebrates Goldfield Days, welcoming visitors for three full days of family-friendly activities and Western heritage. Whether you are traveling from the Las Vegas valley or road-tripping from neighboring rural communities, this annual tradition offers an authentic window into Nevada’s deep mining roots and proud small-town spirit.

A Nod to Nevada’s Golden History

To truly appreciate Goldfield Days, you have to understand the ground you are standing on. Back in the early 1900s, Goldfield was the richest, most influential, and largest booming city in Nevada, boasting a peak population of over 20,000 people. While the gold rush eventually slowed down, the town's fierce community spirit never faded. Today, with a proud year-round population of around 250 residents, Goldfield Days serves as our annual tribute to that spectacular Wild West origin. It is a weekend where history completely comes alive, honoring the miners of the past while celebrating the small-town pride that keeps this community thriving.

Signature Events You Can’t Miss

The festival grounds will be bursting with energy all weekend long, but a few landmark events deserve a permanent spot on your itinerary. First up is the vibrant Goldfield Days parade on Saturday morning, featuring historic floats and local characters that perfectly capture the town's quirky charm.

If you have ever dreamed of owning a piece of the historic West, the famous Esmeralda County Land Auction is an opportunity you won’t want to miss. It is one of the festival's biggest draws, giving visitors a legitimate chance to bid on actual parcels of local land.

Looking for a bit of friendly, rugged competition? Stick around for the old-fashioned horseshoe contest, join the fun local Poker Walk, or watch the high-energy mucking contest, where participants test their speed mimicking old-school mining techniques. As the sun sets, grab a cold drink and head over to the Town Square for live music, food vendors, and a stellar street dance under the desert stars.

Explore Beyond the Festival Grounds

While the festival schedule is packed, make sure to leave some time to wander. Goldfield is a paradise for history buffs and art lovers alike. You can take a guided tour of the town’s beautifully preserved historic structures. Just a short drive outside of the main downtown area sits the world-famous International Car Forest of the Last Church. This open-air, free-range art installation features dozens of junk cars, trucks, and buses balanced precariously on their ends or buried nose-first into the desert dirt, all covered in colorful, shifting graffiti murals. It is a surreal visual experience that you truly have to see to believe.
